About Moms Against Poverty
Learn more about our work and who we are.
The United States, despite being the world's largest economy, has over 38 million people living below the poverty line. Income inequality is at its highest among G7 nations, exacerbating the wealth gap between America's most affluent and its poorest families.
The reality of not having enough food for the next meal looms large over her family. In their small apartment, the struggle to provide basic necessities is an ever-present concern, casting a constant shadow of worry and uncertainty.
When her children return from school, the impact of having too little to eat is evident. Their hunger makes participating in after-school activities nearly impossible. This same hunger distracts them from concentrating on their homework and learning in the classroom. Iris has expressed the deep sadness she feels when seeing her children struggle and not being able to participate in activities that are to bring them joy. As a mother, Iris struggles with the thought that she’s unable to provide for her family.
For Iris and her children, the program offers more than just food; it's a lifeline in times of need, bringing relief and stability to their livelihood. The support she receives ensures her children not only have meals on their plates but that they can also attend school ready to learn and grow. It's simple yet profound support that makes a significant difference in their lives.
Feeling grateful for the generosity and support from Moms Against Poverty, Iris, and her children appreciate how the Hunger Relief & Basic Provisions program continuously helps them with this vital aspect of their large family’s life while striving to achieve their full potential and - have a better chance at breaking the cycle of poverty.
Moms Against Poverty has worked with 40 Partner Schools, Community Centers and Shelters in various locations across the country to provide food, hygiene, basic provisions, and education to those in need. Additionally, Moms Against Poverty provides humanitarian relief to the victims of natural disasters in the U.S.
Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty opening doors to jobs, resources, and skills. Early childhood and primary education significantly enhance a child’s well-being and success.
We partner with schools and centers to offer educational opportunities to underserved children, including workshops and STEM education programs to bolster their future learning and opportunities.
Over 50 million Americans face food insecurity, with 1 in 5 children experiencing hunger daily. Our Nutrition and Basic Provisions programs tackle these issues head-on.
Hunger negatively affects a child’s ability to concentrate and perform well in school and is linked to health and behavioral problems. Our Nutrition Outreach Program addresses these needs by regularly providing protein and vegetables to children and their families, improving focus, school performance, and overall well-being.
Our Hygiene Program combats the health issues and embarrassment that come with poor hygiene by providing products and laundry facilities at few of our certain partner centers, ensuring children maintain their dignity.
Disparities become more pronounced during holidays as many families cannot afford celebrations. Our Holiday Helping Hand Project provides food, toys, blankets, gift cards, and other necessities to children in need, making the season brighter.
