Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the unconditional love and warmth that mothers bring to our lives. This year, Moms Against Poverty partnered with Katherine R. Smith Elementary School in San Jose to host a special blanket drive, offering students the chance to create heartfelt gifts for 120 moms. This initiative not only brought smiles to families but also reminded us how a simple act of kindness can make a lasting impact.

Last Friday, the school community gathered to knot cozy blankets for our blanket drive. These beautiful blankets, made with care and love, became cherished Mother’s Day gifts that students could bring home. It was a powerful reminder of how a small gesture can foster community and connection.

Cesar Gaytan, the principal of Katherine R. Smith Elementary School, expressed his gratitude to Moms Against Poverty and its donors in a touching video message. “Our community is one of the most challenged in the whole area of San Jose,” he shared. “Thanks to the generosity of Moms Against Poverty, we have been able to provide food for more than 100 families during times of need and distribute toys for every child in our school community. This blanket drive has brought hope and joy to so many families.”

The blanket drive effort is part of Moms Against Poverty’s broader mission to support struggling communities in the Bay Area. By participating in drives like these, donors help provide essential items to families facing economic hardship, ensuring every child has the warmth and comfort they deserve.
