Latest Iran Earthquake Update – November 22, 2017

Dr. Ashkan Taghipour, Managing Director of Nikgaman Jamshid, Moms Against Poverty’s sister NGO in Iran, reports from Sare-Pol-Zahab, one of the hardest-hit areas in the Kermanshah earthquake.

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake has left 90,000 people without safe housing. Continuous aftershocks, freezing temperatures, and infrastructure destruction make survival even more difficult. Families are living in makeshift tents, facing harsh winter conditions with temperatures expected to drop to -20°F in January.

Urgent Needs for Earthquake Victims

Moms Against Poverty is actively delivering Iran earthquake relief, including:

  • Temporary housing, heaters, and warm clothing for displaced families.
  • Medical aid, mental health therapy, and mobile physiotherapy units for the injured.
  • Food, personal care products, and essential hygiene supplies for thousands of survivors.
  • Makeshift schools and childcare centers for affected children.
