Providing Weekend Meals for Children in Need

Eileen Rafferty-Fore, a counselor at Sugarland Elementary School, Virginia, shares the heartbreaking reality of children going hungry on weekends. Many students rely on free and reduced school meals, but weekends often leave them without food.

To address this crisis, Moms Against Poverty partnered with Sugarland Elementary School to launch a Weekend Nutrition Outreach Program, ensuring that children receive food every weekend.

The Impact of Weekend Meal Support

Before the program, Fridays were difficult for many students—instead of excitement for the weekend, they faced uncertainty about their next meal. Thanks to the Nutrition Outreach Program, students now receive nutritious meals, including protein-rich foods, to support their health and academic success.

Donate Now to help us fight child hunger and provide weekend meals.

Why This Program Matters

  • Many children rely on school meals for daily nutrition
  • Lack of food impacts learning, concentration, and emotional well-being
  • Providing weekend meals ensures children return to school nourished and ready to learn
