COVID-19 Food Assistance for Low-Income Families: How We’re Providing Relief

The COVID-19 pandemic has left millions of Americans without jobs, struggling to afford basic necessities. As families face food insecurity, Moms Against Poverty has been at the forefront, working tirelessly to provide emergency food assistance for low-income families across the U.S.

Emergency Food Relief During the Pandemic

In the past two and a half months, Moms Against Poverty has provided food to over 30,000 children and families. Through partnerships with Peninsula Family Center, El Shaddai Ministries, and the Castro Valley School District, grocery boxes have been distributed to families in need via drive-through services in Northern California.

This is just a small part of the nationwide hunger relief efforts led by Moms Against Poverty, ensuring that children and families do not go to bed hungry.

How Moms Against Poverty Expanded Food Assistance During COVID-19

Even before the pandemic, Moms Against Poverty had been fighting food insecurity by providing meals and hygiene essentials to impoverished children in the U.S.. When the pandemic began, the organization expanded its existing programs and became one of the first to help schools and community centers distribute emergency food relief.

To date, Moms Against Poverty has provided:

  • Over $150,000 in food assistance to struggling families
  • 10,000 meals to students of the San Francisco Unified School District
  • $7,500 in grocery gift cards for students at City College San Francisco
  • 20,000 meals in Washington, D.C., in partnership with D.C. Central Kitchen
  • 400 meals through Mariam’s Kitchen for homeless and low-income individuals
  • Nearly 100,000 lbs. of food distributed to families in California, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania
