$20 = a month of daily breakfast for 1 child
Every morning, children all over the world kickstart their day with a nourishing breakfast, which is widely recognized as the most crucial meal of the day. It’s the fuel they need for learning, growing, and playing. Unfortunately, for the nomadic children in South Khorasan, Iran, their daily reality is drastically different. Extreme poverty and starvation are rampant among the nomadic families in this region.
During the school year Moms Against Poverty’s breakfast program helps parents to feed their many children and incentivizes participation in school by providing daily meals to children in partnership with over 25 schools in the region that are striving to give them the education and resources they need to escape poverty.
Our breakfast program consists of weekly deliveries by local grocery stores of breakfast items including cheese, tahini, fresh fruit, jam, butter and milk. We also work with local bakeries to provide daily bread delivery. This hearty breakfast is often the only meal the children are able to eat each day, as their families are living on mere pennies, often forgoing eating themselves just to provide scraps to their children for dinner.
Last year alone we witnessed in these children was nothing short of miraculous. Kids who once battled lethargy and struggled to concentrate in class are now thriving and reaching their academic potential. Additionally, we saw a drastic decrease in chronic illnesses caused by malnutrition, allowing these children to embrace their childhoods – exploring, playing, and being curious just as all children should.
We ask you to join us and help us continue our Breakfast Program for it is the only source of food thousands of children have in a day!
