Shaping the Future Together

Dear Friends,

We hope you are enjoying summer with your loved ones. Your continued generosity and support of Moms Against Poverty reflect universal philanthropy, global citizenship, and hope for children in need. Our collective efforts are changing the lives of impoverished children worldwide. Read on to learn more about the impact you’ve made and the success of our community-driven fundraising activities.

This quarter, we have focused on strengthening Moms Against Poverty’s social media presence and business partnerships. We are thrilled to announce that Moms Against Poverty was awarded a Social Media Grant from the Neda Nobari Foundation.

Additionally, we hosted our first Information Session at Qualcomm in San Diego, CA. Thanks to one of our long-time supporters, Qualcomm provided a platform for our Board and Advisory Board members to introduce our mission to their employees. This event played a crucial role in expanding our Corporate Matching Gift Program at Qualcomm.

We encourage you to help us grow by connecting us with businesses, foundations, and corporations to further develop this program. To learn more, please contact:

On behalf of the children we serve, we sincerely thank you for your support and look forward to continuing this meaningful work together.

Sincerely,

The Moms Against Poverty Team

Our Community at Work

Thanks to your participation and the dedication of our volunteers, 2015 has been filled with successful fundraising activities. We deeply appreciate the sponsors, volunteers, businesses, and individuals who made these events possible:

  • The Forest Hill Garden Club (CA) raised nearly $4,000 to support supplemental education programs at Bryant Center in San Francisco.
  • The Bay Area All-In Group held its 4th annual event, raising $24,000 to build a therapy center, library, and renovate the kitchen at Shahid Ghiasvand Orphanage in Iran. Funds were also used to establish classroom libraries at Cesar Chavez & Green Oaks Academy in Palo Alto, CA.
  • SAHA (Satellite Affordable Housing Associates) and Moms Against Poverty partnered for the 5th year, raising $15,000 to help construct a school in Senegal.
  • Moms Against Poverty’s 2nd annual fundraiser in Orange County raised over $65,000 to support global programs.

Save the Date! Join us for Moms Against Poverty’s 8th Annual Fundraising Gala in San Francisco on September 26th.

Moms Against Poverty’s Work in the U.S.

The poverty rate for U.S. children under 18 is 1 in 5, meaning 14.6 million children live below the poverty threshold (U.S. Census). For the first time in over 50 years, a majority of U.S. public school students come from low-income families. According to The Washington Post, 51% of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, indicating a growing need for educational and nutritional support.

In addition to providing meals for children facing food insecurity, Moms Against Poverty supports various supplemental education programs, including:

  • Guided Reading Program – Cesar Chavez & Green Oaks Academy, Palo Alto, CA
  • After-School Science Program – Bryant Center, San Francisco, CA
  • Vocational Training & Workplace Readiness Program – HAAS, Hawaii
  • Mentor Program – Blind Children’s Learning Center, Santa Ana, CA

Every child deserves access to quality education and nourishment. Thank you for making this possible!

Moms Against Poverty’s Global Efforts

Building Schools & Educational Programs in Senegal

In Mbour, Senegal, our school construction is progressing rapidly. With the help of Natangué Sénégal, the project has moved into its second phase. To complete construction and add three additional classrooms, we still need to raise $29,700.

Expanding Educational Access in Iran

Moms Against Poverty, in partnership with the Alborz Alumni Group, helped construct a school in Asheghloo, Iran last year. Thanks to generous donations and our matching funds program, the school now has:

A fully equipped computer lab – allowing students to use computers for the first time.
A growing student population – 95 girls are receiving a high-quality education.
Highly qualified educators – Some administrators hold Master’s degrees.

Construction of three new schools in Iran is also progressing well! A student in the video below thanks donors and asks for a library and computer lab to enhance learning at their school.

Empowering Students in India

Moms Against Poverty now supports five Learning Centers in Raygada, India, near some of the poorest slums.

Meet Sidhartha, a 7th-grade student at Learning Center #4. He lives with his mother, a cleaning lady earning $50 per month. Without access to free education, one-third of their income would have been needed for school costs.

Sidhartha rides his bicycle 3 km each day to attend class. He is one of our most dedicated students, and his story reflects the transformative impact of education.

Supporting Children in Cambodia

The children at HOPE Children’s Home are thriving! This year, Alex Mortazavi and Sayeh Yabandeh, two generous supporters, visited Cambodia and spent time with the children.

Providing Education & Peace Programs in Afghanistan

At Sorya High School in Afghanistan, 2,400 students are excelling in Moms Against Poverty-supported computer literacy, peace, and education programs. These programs are empowering young girls to become leaders in their communities.
