Thank you for being a beacon of hope for these children. Read on to see the impact you’ve made.

We are also thrilled to share that Moms Against Poverty received four grants totaling $228,000 in the first quarter of 2015. We deeply appreciate the generosity and trust of these individuals and foundations:

  • $100,000 grant from the Tahbazof Family Foundation to build a school in the Sistan Baluchistan region of Iran.
  • $93,000 donation from Mr. Shapour Hakam for constructing a school in Azerbaijan.
  • $25,000 grant from the HEDCO Foundation for purchasing a vehicle and equipment for the Hawaii Academy of Sciences Vocational Training Program.
  • $10,000 grant from the Nasiri Foundation for renovating the Shahid Torkamani Orphanage in Tehran.

On behalf of the children, we thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to continuing this year with even greater achievements.

The Moms Against Poverty Team

Moms Against Poverty’s Work in the U.S.

We continue to expand our Nutrition Outreach and Supplemental Education Programs in the U.S. Currently, one in five children in the U.S. experiences hunger, and we are committed to serving as many of them as possible. Through our Nutrition Outreach Program, we provide meals to hundreds of children living in poverty. These meals are distributed through schools and local centers, helping families who must choose between paying bills or feeding their children. The impact of this program has been truly life-changing.

Additionally, thanks to a grant from the HEDCO Foundation, Moms Against Poverty continues to support the Workplace Readiness Program at the Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science Charter School. Located in Pahoa, one of the state’s poorest economic regions, this program provides vocational training, independent living skills, and academic support for students with special needs, ages 14-22.

Expanding Schools & Education Programs Globally

Moms Against Poverty in Iran

Exciting developments are underway! Along with our ongoing programs, we have begun constructing three new schools in Iran:

  • A school is being built in Azerbaijan in honor of Mr. Shapour Hakam’s father.
  • A school in Sistan Baluchistan is now under construction, thanks to a generous grant from the Tahbazof Family Foundation.
  • Moms Against Poverty has partnered with Yaaraan-e-Alborz to build a school in the village of Zoveyraan. Moms Against Poverty will match every dollar raised.

Moms Against Poverty in India

This year, we expanded our work in India by supporting the Mother Miracle School in Rishikesh. With your help, we have purchased classroom technology and equipment, allowing 340 students to access advanced learning tools beyond their textbooks.

Additionally, we continue to support a Boys’ Home and three Learning Centers in Orissa, located near impoverished slums in Raygada. These centers provide free education and meals for 150 children in extreme poverty.

Moms Against Poverty in Cambodia

In Cambodia, we support:

  • A Children’s Home, which provides a nurturing environment for 20 children.
  • Three free health clinics for underserved communities.
  • An Education Outreach Program, now expanded into an After-School Community Program offering computer, math, and English classes to over 100 students.

Moms Against Poverty in Africa

In Mbour, Senegal, we have begun building a school to serve children living in extreme poverty. According to the United Nations’ Multidimensional Poverty Index, 74% of Senegal’s population lives in poverty, with over 30% of children lacking education. This school will provide stability, safety, and learning opportunities for these children.

The school’s construction is progressing in two phases, with the help of Natangué Sénégal. However, we need $29,700 more to complete the second phase and add three additional classrooms. Please help us finish this school—Donate Now.

Moms Against Poverty in Afghanistan

The 2,400 students at Sorya High School in Afghanistan are thriving in Moms Against Poverty-supported computer literacy, peace, and education programs. Here’s a story from Nigina, a 9th-grade student:

“Peace is a word that everyone loves. One day, my classmates and I saw two young children fighting. While some thought it was amusing, I stepped in and reminded them that conflict only brings more problems. I am grateful to the peace education program for teaching us the power of kindness and understanding.”
